"I am the Lorax, I speak for the trees." -The Lorax
This is a line from Dr. Seuss' Original Lorax animated TV special from 1972, which follows the book's story line. Overall, the Lorax is a story that depicts what is happening to the environment, our current attitudes towards natural resource depletion, and foreshadows the terrible consequences. Deforestation is occurring just so we can make goods for our own selfish consumption, animals are being driven from their natural habitats, and there is increasing water, air, and other types of pollution. All of these things have terrible consequences on the environment, which may be irreversible if we do not act swiftly.
I recommend you watch this short 25-minute animated TV special if you have the time. Although simple, it demonstrates our poor use of natural resources and the harmful attitudes we tend to take on as we live our day-to-day lives.
